“Throughout my years as a lawyer, I have seen many young people who did not have access to the same opportunities as myself. This is often due to financial hardship or coming from a regional or remote area, or both” says Principal of Astor Legal, Mr Avinash Singh.
“As a firm, Astor Legal has a strong interest in doing what we can to correct this. We travel to Courts throughout Australia and spend a significant amount of time in country towns. Ensuring that the legal community welcomes people from diverse backgrounds makes the profession stronger and more respected.”
“We see the Astor Legal scholarship as a way of encouraging people from all walks of life to pursue a career in the law. No one should have to forego their chosen path in life because of where they live, or because they cannot afford it.”
The Astor Legal Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of their resume, covering letter, an academic transcript, evidence of any financial hardship, evidence of being from a remote or regional location and an interview with the firm’s principal.
According to Mr Singh, “pursuing a career in the law can at times be gruelling, stressful and challenging. However, it is immensely rewarding and allows you to make real change in a person’s life. We hope this scholarship will help do just that.”
Applicants must have Australian citizenship or Australian permanent residency and enrolled in their penultimate or final year in an LL.B, Juris Doctor or Legal Practitioners Admission Board course, or undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
